The sun-jdk package requires lib-compat in order to work properly (any graphical
components depend on /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2).  I guess that most
folks have it installed already, but I didn't and it took me a while to realise
what I needed to do...

is this sun-jdk or sun-j2sdk?

sun-jdk.  I don't have enough disk space to build sun-j2sdk :-(
