Description:   Opened: 2006-12-16 09:07 0000
This issue has been discussed in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9311 and
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/hal/2006-October/006412.html and a fix
has already been commited to upstream udev (
http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/hotplug/udev.git;a=commitdiff;h=2658afdcf147afd384e27f0ac9019e27de7ba397
).

However for the meantime I propose to include the patch within the ebuild. I
will append the needed files. Procedure:

Copy /usr/portage/sys-apps/hal to the appropriate location in your local
portage overlay. Download hal-0.5.7.1-r3.ebuild and
files/hal-0.5.7.1-via-raid-fix.patch and place them in your overlay.
# ebuild hal-0.5.7.1-r3.ebuild digest
# emerge hal
(of course hal-0.5.7.-r3 is masked ~ )...

Hope this helps anybody...

How was this original? This has a higher bug number... (read... $bug+1)... Stop

I don't want to step on any toes or anything, but it would sure be nice if this
patch could get into portage, regardless of the reporters' somewhat silly
behaviour :)

I have an iPod Nano 2G as well, and maintain a local ebuild to fix this
problem.

Fixed in hal-0.5.7.1-r4

Please reopen, I'm actually using:
sys-apps/hal-0.5.7.1-r5
sys-fs/udev-104-r11

The script available on http://banshee-project.org/Troubleshooting/iPod/RaidBug
reports that the bug is still here :(

I'm using sys-apps/hal-0.5.9.1 but the problem is still here.

*please* reopen this bug!

------- Comment #13 From Christoph Tavan 2007-06-26 15:10:07 0000 -------
I assume this is rather a bug in the script from
http://banshee-project.org/Troubleshooting/iPod/RaidBug than in the hal-ebuild!
I'm using hal-0.5.9 too and my Ipod nano works flawlessly with any app so far.
I also tried the mentioned script and it also tells me, that my ipod would
suffer from the bug - however my ipod gets detected correctly and works
perfectly!

Have you tried with banshee player?

------- Comment #15 From Doug Goldstein 2007-07-02 15:32:35 0000 -------
The issue is in the Banshee script. It still spits out the error when newer
HALs work just fine with those iPods. I'm willing to bet if he actually tried
it, that it would work.

When I plug my Ipod nano banshee reports:

Information: [03/07/2007 16.27.59] (Mass Storage Support Ignoring iPod) - The
USB mass storage audio player support ignored an iPod. Either Banshee's iPod
support is broken or missing, or the iPod itself may be corrupted.
