Please always file complete bug reports, so that searching the gentoo bugzilla isn't a complete waste of time. Without any proper description of your issue I can't even say whether you are seeing the same bug.

Without any proper description of your issue I > can't even say whether you are seeing the same bug. OK. Let me provide more info... Booting the kernel gives the following on the screen: ... Decompressing Linux...done. Booting the kernel and at the end there is: Kernel alive kernel direct mapping tables up to 100000000 @ 8000-d000 I don't have serial console, but earlyprintk=vga produces the same output as in http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7505#c2 Sincerely, Gour
And the crash context is identical? Please type out the RIP line and call trace, or upload a photo.
Created attachment 103755 [details] photo of kernel hanging Hi! Here is the pic showing how kernel is hanging. Sincerely, Gour
Thanks, it is indeed the same bug. Please follow the instructions I left there.
(In reply to comment #5) > Thanks, it is indeed the same bug. Please follow the instructions I left there. > Thanks. The patch applies cleanly and the system is up :-) Sincerely, Gour
Hi. As I wrote on http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7505 the patch works for me. I just wonder why a bug has been also opened on gentoo bugzilla since it's not a bug strictly related to gentoo-sources.

I just wonder why a bug has been also opened on gentoo bugzilla > since it's not a bug strictly related to gentoo-sources. > Well, imho, if the kernel does not boot it is serious issue and affects the whole ~amd64 arch, therefore... Sincerely, Gour
Certainly doesn't affect the whole architecture, but part of the process is informing the distros of the bugs so that they can get involved in the solutions, and also ensure that the solutions make their way into the -stable tree :) (otherwise the process of getting a bugfix into a distro kernel is significantly longer)
fixes merged upstream
Fixed in genpatches-2.6.19-5 (gentoo-sources-2.6.19-r4)
