try a revdep-rebuild to fix your portaudio libraries. or just remerge the
portaudio.

Reopen if you have troubles after that (I doubt you will).

------- Comment #3 From Neil Skrypuch 2006-11-07 05:41:11 0000 -------
I reemerged portaudio and then revdep-rebuild rebuilt vlc for me (unrelated).
emerging wireshark now still dies with the exact same error as before.

can I get your new config.log and emerge output at time of failure just to be
sure.

does /usr/lib64/libpthread.so (part of glibc) exist?

if so what does the following show:
readelf -d /usr/lib/libpthread.so | egrep '(NEED|SONAME)'

show: ldd /usr/lib64/libpthread.so

Problem will probably occur emergeing anything that links to portaudio.

Hmm... I thought pthreads were gone with glibc 2.4?

All of my (glibc 2.4) machines appear to have a similar libpthread.so.

Opps - I looked at a non-glibc-2.4 machine.

On a glibc-2.4 I got

 # more /usr/lib/libpthread.so
/* GNU ld script
   Use the shared library, but some functions are only in
   the static library, so try that secondarily. */
OUTPUT_FORMAT(elf32-i386)
GROUP ( /lib/libpthread.so.0 /usr/lib/libpthread_nonshared.a )

# ls /usr/lib/libpthread*
/usr/lib/libpthread.a  /usr/lib/libpthread.so  /usr/lib/libpthread_nonshared.a

I should of been looking at portaudio library anyway:

$ ldd usr/lib/libportaudio.so.18
        statically linked
$ readelf -d usr/lib/libportaudio.so.18  | egrep '(NEED|SONAME)'
 0x0000000e (SONAME)                     Library soname: [libportaudio.so.18]

$ readelf -a usr/lib/libportaudio.so.18  | fgrep pthread

Stable for HPPA.

------- Comment #19 From Jeroen Roovers 2007-01-11 22:45:26 0000 -------
Aw, wireshark's configure still doesn't find libportaudio for HPPA. Should have
read the entire bug last time, I guess. FWIW, the same problem occurs with the
newer -r6.

------- Comment #20 From Guy Martin 2007-02-23 21:57:50 0000 -------
I fixed the linking bug on hppa.

The library needs to be linked using gcc and not ld.

Marked -r6 stable as well.
