Because the current stable (net-fs/openafs-kernel-1.4.0-r1) doesn't even build on systems with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.17-r4. This kernel is stable on all cc'd archs (except for ia64, which has 2.6.17-r3 and 2.6.18 in stable). Extra note: 2.6.18 is currently unsupported for any arch, even any ~arch, waiting for a solution from upstream (see bug #149274) Thanks!
