Description Allen Lee 2006-10-10 00:13:25 UTC
I've tried to upgrade tomcat with java5 enabled and disabled, didn't seem to make a difference. Here's some potentially relevant information - it looks like the culprit could be a 404 at http://struts.apache.org/tags-bean but you never can tell with those shifty Ant build failed messages, or at least I never can tell.

Comment 1 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-10 09:51:55 UTC
There were changes to a few targets that were previously commented out via a Gentoo specific patch. One of the targets was needed to build a jar for the admin webapp. In the process of uncommenting that target it seems another was needed, the webapps precompile target. Which might need to be commented out again as before. However there are some part of that target, the following one, fix-webapps needs. A bit of tail chasing due to upstream target changes, but I will resolve ASAP.

I am not sure if either using or not using the admin use flag would help. I did not run into that error last night during tests. But the url is obviously 404.

I have get the same error with only "doc java5" in USE and with "admin doc java5" it's emerged successfully.

Adding the admin use flag fixed it for me - thanks!

works for me too with a different config - emerge --info:

Comment 5 William L. Thomson Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-11 09:27:37 UTC
I spent a few hours working on this yesterday. It's basically a tail chasing situation when it comes to patches. Like there are patches to not build the examples webapp stuff if the examples USE flag is not set. However those patches are conflicting with admin patches. It's likely I will have to make several sets of patches, combined, and then ones for like if examples flag is set, and admin is not, or if admin is set and examples is not.

It's quite a big mess and had I known upstream would change the targets functionality as they did. I would not have introduced the admin use flag. If this patch thing continues to be the nightmare it's become. I might drop the admin use flag for now.

Should be fixed with 5.5.20-r2 just committed. Please allow time to sync to mirrors. Going to close this bug, please re-open if problem persists. Or file new bug reports for any newly created bugs. Thanks
