Currently openssl-0.9.8* doesn't run correctly on ppc64 with gcc-3.4*. It will compile but fails tests with ripemd160. openssl-0.9.7 has a hack added to it that means it works, but is extremely slow. This is clearly not a good state of affairs. Please apply the patch which remedies the situation, then we'll mark it ppc64 when ready. The patch works without problems on all of the 0.9.8* series. I've been tracking it each step and have only had to copy the one additional line each time. Performance is up significantly and no errors have been found. It only affects ppc64 and gcc-3.4*. For anyone using gcc-4.* then they'll get even better performance.
