Some tests of gnu-make 3.81 fail on my hardened system (hardened-sources-2.6.16-r11). I have found out what the problem is: With LANG=de_DE.utf8 and LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8 make errors out in the tests. With LANG=C and LC_ALL=C make works correctly. I hope these bugs don't occur in practical work. This should be fixed for make 3.81, make 3.80 works correctly in this case.

this is because you're using LC_ALL rather than LANG ... but ignoring that, upstream has fixed this already and i've added the patch to cvs
