I've built my system with USE=-pam but am now trying out Gnome 2.16. I see: [ebuild N ] app-admin/sabayon-2.12.4 USE="-debug" 559 kB [ebuild U ] sys-libs/pam-0.78-r5 [0.78-r3] USE="berkdb -nis -pam_chroot -pam_console -pam_timestamp -pwdb (-selinux)" 6,346 kB So, sabayon is pulling in pam. Would it be possible to have sabayon built without PAM?
Extremely unlikely, I do believe it is a hard dependency - and also, whenever hal 0.5.9 is released, it will also hard depend on pam, due to policy kit requiring it (which hal will require)
No, it isn't ... better said there are no runtime dependencies left which would make a `virtual/pam' entry force upon us intelligible! Maintainers ... please modify the ebuild to reflect the current state of our portage environment ;)
ok, double checked my findings with johnny on irc (a fellow gnome hacker working on sabayon) and the pam dep is now gone since we pass --enable-console-helper=no to configure.
