are you running gnome-2.16, if so you'll need to unmask all the new mm-stuff -
at least this resolved the problem for me (it seems the dependancies should be
adjusted).

I am having the same problem. What mm-stuff are you talking about.

It's the stuff listed in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:

# Daniel Gryniewicz <dang@gentoo.org> (06 Sep 2006)
# GNOME 2.16 mask for testing
>=dev-cpp/glibmm-2.9.1
>=dev-cpp/gconfmm-2.16.0
>=dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0
>=dev-cpp/gtkmm-2.10.1
dev-cpp/cairomm
>=dev-cpp/libgnomecanvasmm-2.16.0
>=dev-cpp/libgnomemm-2.16.0
>=dev-cpp/libgnomeuimm-2.16.0
>=dev-cpp/libglademm-2.6.3
>=dev-cpp/libxmlpp-2.13.1

You might not need to unmask all of that, but you certainly need to unmask
gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0. (I solved my own problem in a different way, by emerging
app-cdr/cdrdao with USE=-gnome so it didn't pull in the gtk-- dependencies.)

------- Comment #7 From Zurd 2006-11-06 16:10:14 0000 -------
Working here with this method : put in comment ">=dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0"
from "/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask" and emerge will install vfsmm-2.16
instead of vfsmm-2.12 and it will build just fine (at least it did on my
computer).

Thanks for the info

This method works for too. I am on the ~amd64 tree. Except, I just added
">=dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0" to my /etc/portage/package.unmask.  I think that
is the perfered method.

------- Comment #9 From Jory A. Pratt 2006-11-17 20:38:38 0000 -------
ALL mm packages were unmasked a bit ago. I spoke with dang on irc and asked for
the p.mask removal and he complied, after a brief review of the problems with
not unmasking it.

emerge =dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0" have been
masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)

given that there have been three bugs marked as suplicates of this one since
Jory reported that the mm packages had been unmasked, I wonder why this hasn't
actually happened.

emerge is ignoring my package.unmask file, which contains the line:
>=dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm-2.16.0

Because it's not masked; it's just ~arch. That's what
/etc/portage/package.keywords is for. Now please, no need to comment on this
bug with completely off-topic "issues"...

On a brandnew stable AMD64 the only way getting it through the compiler was
putting 'dev-cpp/gnome-vfsmm ~amd64' in /etc/portage/package.keywords.
It seems to work now but I suspect this is not the prefered method in this
case.
cheers.
