sdl-image-1.2.3-r1 does not recognize as such several JPG files. I've noticed,
for example, that it can't open several images from Drowtales [1] (example
[2]), but it sometimes happens with images from other sources, too. All other
image visualization programs have no problems at all.

Solution: upgrade to sdl-image-1.2.5-r1.

let me rephrase that: the version currently marked as "stable" is buggy. you
should seriously consider marking version 1.2.5-r1 as stable.
