Description Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-25 16:17:42 UTC
Release 1.1.1 and older end up being miscompiled by GCC 4.1.1; the end result being a tight loop in the control socket code. This uses up an excessive amount of CPU. Users report between 20% and 100% CPU usage and a sluggish CPU.
For as far as I can tell, AMD64 is hit the worst, but it occasionally occurs on X86. I have never seen it on PPC.
Blubb has marked 1.1.2 stable after confirming that this resolves the issue.

Way too late to be fixed for release 2006.1... removing RTx86/RTamd64.
Comment 2 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-29 03:54:46 UTC
X86 please consider keywording 1.1.2 stable early; at least before GCC 4.1.1 is stabilized.
Comment 3 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-29 04:04:42 UTC
Make this block GCC 4.1.1 stabilisation
Comment 4 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-29 04:15:22 UTC
1) emerges fine
2) passes collision test
3) works

Stable on x86, so removing us from CC...
Comment 6 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-30 01:02:58 UTC
Release management says no, and the affected arches have stabled. No reason to keep this bug open any longer.
