Looks like 2.4.4 has been released?

Fixed in cvs... although I think is basically the same code as in ppp-2.4.3-r16. 
I kept the 2.4.3 version pretty up to date, by importing most CVS changes over the time.
Anyway, enjoy the "shiny" new version. ;)
