Well augutus kling already reported the bug, see link. But the KDE guys seem to sleep! Now, for me the bug occured in kde-3.5.2 and doesn't go away if I delete the old .kde profile. It is very annoying, since I can't create new directories. It occured after an emerge world - that also updated konqueror - the first time. I think I had some 3.4 version before. It seems, that there have been a similar bug before: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70763 ; It is said to be solved in Gentoo, but it doesn't look like it is... And every know and then they try to keep up with far larger and demanding user base. ;) Can't verify. All fine here. Probably you fubared your ~/.kde configuration. Move the directory or create a new account and see if you still have the problem.
Ok, you're right. These KDE guys are living beings like any other and so they need to sleep. But well, they could response to that bug, I think. I deleted my .kde but it didn't change anything. The menu is still empty. Carsten, you use kde-3.5.2 too or another version? I don't know much about KDE. Do you know where it get's its info what should be in that pull down menu? Perhaps something's not right with the global config.

I'm using KDE 3.5.4, but I haven't seen such a problem with any version and if it's not a configuration problem, I suspect a broken installation.
Can't reproduce here either.
I found out why nobody can reproduce my errors: It's because I didn't do "emerge kde". I did "emerge konqueror" and that's why things are missing. I don't know what's trendy @mom with kde and modularity, but this bug is related to the standalone-version of konqueror.
I also have a standalone konqueror without kde-base/kde. I can confirm this in 3.5.4 and 3.5.5.

I tracked it down. konqueror generates that list with the desktop files installed in /usr/kde/3.5/share/templates (Directory.desktop, linkProgram.desktop, etc) that come from kdesktop. Konqueror needs to depend on kdesktop.
Thanks for your bug report as well as locating the source of the problem. This is fixed now with the most recent ebuilds.
