Description:   Opened: 2006-08-05 14:38 0000
A new googleearth update has appeared. When I opened googleearth, it gave me a
message about this. The program comes in an executable file, which can be
downloaded in this direction:
http://dl.google.com/earth/GE4/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
But it seems that the new version has droped the old version away from google
servers, so the only way to update is to unmerge googleearth and emerge it
again. But when this happens, checksum fails. I have copy the ebuild to my
local portage tree and make "ebuild googleearth-4_beta.ebuild digest". Then I
emerged it and it works.

I think that we must find a way to upgrade googleearth on the official portage
tree, because doing local overlays to install/update a program that is in
poratge it's not the way it's should go.

Excuse me for my horrible english, please.

The easiest way to upgrade now is to remove the old distfile and run emerge
--digest googleearth which will download the new one and calculate new
checksum. No need for overlays. In the future, the ebuilds should prolly have
more fine-tuned versions :)
