I have been having trouble creating an initramfs containing a gensplash image with genkernel. Every time I have tried to create this file, this message appears: No splash detected; skipping! No splash files are then built or merged into the initramfs file. I tracked this down to an incorrect path specified in line 291 of the gen_initramfs.sh file provided as part of the genkernel 3.4.0 install. Changing this path to the correct /usr/bin rather than /sbin resolved the problem, and /var/log/genkernel.log showed the gensplash files being installed correctly. I am currently using splashutils-1.1.9.10, though the same problem appeared with splashutils-1.1.9.8 (currently stable on x86). I was unable to get splashutils-1.3-r1 to compile to test.
