current stable sci-astronomy/celestia-1.3.2 fails to build with GCC 4.1 (bug
#124956).  if possible, please stabilize >=sci-astronomy/celestia-1.4.1 or
backport a fix from ~arch so we can work on getting GCC 4.1 into stable.

in x86 gcc4.1

1) emerges fine
2) passes collision tests
3) works, but after playing with it for a while (checkin Mars and the Pleiades)
i tried to shut down the app (File->Quit) and it restarted my X server. I use
modular X and chrooting to gcc4.1-x86 stable jail. 

here is the error when X servers gets killed:

kdeinit: Fatal IO Error: client killed
klauncher: Exiting on signal 15
kded: Fatal client error: client killed
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
     after 80833 requests (80654 known processed) with 114 events remaining


It happens most of the time (not always) i wouldn't advice to make this app
stable just yet

 * opengl-update is deprecated and will eventually be removed from portage.
 * The opengl-update executable just calls the opengl eselect module.

If I use opengl from xorg-x11 (radeon) it works just fine, however, it uses a
100% cpu (yes direct rendering works).

If I use opengl from ati-drivers I run in to bug #42756 (celestia crashes).

Failed for me on amd64. It just killed my Xserver when clicking on 'Stop'.
This might be related to me using ATI binary drivers, so i'd like to have
somebody with other drivers test this, too.

I put an updated celestia-1.4.1-r1 in gentooscience.org overlay. It contains
other patches, and fixes bug #128218 and #142786. Tested on amd64 with nvidia
drivers, worked fine.

ppc done.  We are the last arch from the initial stable request.

Still need to fix up a couple bugs so amd64 will stable it.

sci-astronomy/celestia-1.3.2 fail to build with gcc 4.1.1

sci-astronomy/celestia-1.4.1 with USE="kde nls -arts -debug -gnome -gtk -lua
-threads" builds cleanly.  But when run, gives the following error box:

"Something seems to be wrong with your installation of Celestia. The splash
screen directory couldn't be found. Start-up will continue, but Celestia will
probably be missing some data files and may not work correctly, please check
your installation."

Adding USE=gtk seems to fix it:

sci-astronomy/celestia-1.4.1 with USE="gtk* kde nls -arts -debug -gnome -lua
-threads"  builds cleanly.  A quick check (mars fly-by) suggests it works. 
Exits cleanly on quit.

It seems problem with celestia-1.3.2 can be fixed with the patch similar to the
gcc4.1 patch for celestia-1.4.1:
