did you already delete your local copy and unset your mirrors to make sure it's
not any of those thats serving a corrupt file ?

I have deleted the local copy and tried several different mirrors, all with the
same error.

# ebuild /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome-vfs/gnome-vfs-2.14.2.ebuild digest 

is a temporary workaround and the ebuild compiles without errors afterwards.

Same problem here, and the ebuild digest rebuild fixed it.
