games-fps/duke3d-20040817 hangs at the menu every time for me, at which point it needs a kill -9 passed to it. 1) Run duke3d 2) Animated screen with the rocket and symbol is shown. Sound is heard. 3) 3d Realms logo shown 4) Duke standing over a dead alien 5) Menu appears with what looks like the wall of a level in background, weapons and their status can be seen in the bottom. No keys work whatsoever. Must drop to console and kill -9 I have tried with both USE="opengl" and USE="-opengl" with zero change. I have tried to get an strace, however when I redirect it to a file, the file reaches several hundred MB and never does anything. Any ideas? I had the exact same problem. This was solved by using the portage overlay duke3d-overlay.tar.bz in comment #5 of Bug 122290. Hope this helps. The problem should be sorted when 122290 is closed.
A fix should be in portage. Thanks for report.
