We don't have a stable as it is.

Any advise on how to test this? I emerged spim on amd64, emerge itself went
fine, the test it ran during the emerge just grabbed 100% CPU and sat there for
about 20 minutes. I killed it and emerged with FEATURES="-test". Starting spim
gave me a note about the README and then just sat there grabbing all CPU
cycles. xspim started some kind of GUI and did the same CPU hogging without
responding to anything...

that sounds about right. spim causing troubles on amd64 is somewhat like a
tradition, which is why i'd rather not keyword it stable. unfortunately, we
have packages marked stable that depend on it, last time i checked, so we can't
simply degrade it to ~amd64. However, the current stable seems to work better
than this version does, so just leaving everything as-is is probably the best
path to go...
