Description Vlastimil Babka (Caster) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-08 10:54:22 UTC
In portage since 15 Apr 2006, no bugs filled, considered stable by upstream. Current gentoo stable is from 2004, considered UNSTABLE/EXPERIMENTAL by upstream.
Improvements like:
- Works 'out of the box' with Linux SATA libata

Works fine here on my x86 with SATA2 and two ATA drives.

well, i've done some testing with smartmontools-5.36 [ -static ] on two x86 boxes and three ide drives. they seem to do their job at least as reliable as the current stable version.
Comment 2 Matthias Langer 2006-06-09 16:33:08 UTC
i've now also done some testing with a rather old SCSI drive on x86:

# smartctl -i /dev/sda
...
Device: SEAGATE ST39173LC Version: 6679
Serial number: LMD53617000019300RV2
Device type: disk
Local Time is: Sun Jun 11 04:09:19 2006 CEST
Device supports SMART and is Enabled
Temperature Warning Disabled or Not Supported

while smartmontools seem to work fine here too, i'm not sure if the following is a smartctl bug or just because the drive doesn't support this test:

# smartctl -t (short/long) /dev/sda
...
(Short/Long) (extended) offline self test failed [unsupported field in scsi command]

btw: "smartctl -c /dev/sda" doesn't show anything but the programs version and homepage; "smartctl -t offline /dev/sdb" works.

x86 done... please don't assign bugs directly to us, just add us to CC like everyone else...

Thanks...
