Could you try emerging docbook-sgml-utils and then gurlchecker again?

After emerging docbook-sgml-utils, the install works well.
The program seem to work fine also (currently trying it).

If I can add a remark, it appears in "Internet" in my menu, while KLinkStatus
(a clone for KDE) appears in "Development" > "Internet Development". Maybe the
two should have the same menu location.

Thanks for the fix, I've added docbook-sgml-utils to the ebuild's DEPEND to
prevent this type of error.

Regarding the menu location, it's a separate issue, but from what I see, the
Categories entry in gurlchecker.desktop seems to be fine (the relevant category
is 'Network' which is defined in the freedesktop standard).

Sorry for the late reply. The fix is now in the stable version too.
