Description:   Opened: 2003-01-09 02:36 0000
This is a ebuild for the new arping version 1.05 from Thomas Habets
( http://www.habets.pp.se/synscan/programs.php?prog=arping )

The file is located at ftp://ftp.habets.pp.se/pub/synscan/arping-1.05.tar.gz

From Thomas's site:
--------------------
 Known bugs

    * Does not traverse routing table to find out which interface would be the
smartest one to use, just uses the first one.
    * Only a beta version for libnet 1.1.x. Use 1.0.2a or compatible for the
supported version

Description Broadcasts a who-has ARP packet on the network and prints answers.
VERY useful when you are trying to pick an unused IP for a net that you don't
yet have routing to. Then again, if you have no idea what I'm talking about then
you prolly don't need it.

    * You really want this tool
    * It looks like ping (sort of)
    * It can ping ethernet addresses (if the target has IP configured)
    * Nice README with an FAQ
    * OSs: Linux, {Free,Net,Open}BSD, MacOS X, Solaris (and probably more)
    * Processors: alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc,
s390, sparc, sparc64 and vax
