Hi archs, this is a maintainer request to mark dev-lang/R-2.2.1 stable on ~ia64 ~ppc ~ppc64 ~sparc ~x86 To test before marking, please use the built-in testcases via FEATURES="test". I'd also like you guys to test it both with your stable gcc and (if available) gcc-4.1.x, as R makes extensive use of Fortran and gcc has switched from g77 to gfortran in gcc-4. TIA

x86 done... thanks for the testing, guys...
Sparc: Can you guys please check if it passes the tests of the currently stable version? TIA! Further did you test with gcc-3.4 or gcc-4.1?
With gcc-3.4.6-r1 on SB1000-SMP (profile=2006.0), R-2.1.1 runs its tests without any problem. I ran FEATURES=test ebuild R-2.1.1.ebuild fetch unpack compile install and watched the entire process; it did run all tests, and they all passed. USE="X blas jpeg nls png readline tcltk -debug" and native fortran from gcc. I'll try 2.2.1 on my system as well, to see if I duplicate Jason's failure. (USE="X blas jpeg nls png readline tcltk -debug -lapack" for this build.)

For me, FEATURES=test ebuild R-2.2.1.ebuild unpack compile install ran all the tests successfully. Everything as above (note USE= values), and both gcc and g77 use flags CFLAGS=FFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mcpu=ultrasparc3" So, it must be a compiler version issue, CFLAGS issue, or USE= issue, I suppose.
For completeness, I ran FEATURES=test emerge R which on the system as above builds and installs R-2.3.1 This also ran all tests successfully. So, I think we are looking at some configuration sensitivity problem. (I used same compiler, USE= values, CFLAGS, and FFLAGS as previously stated.)
Here's a long shot to consider. I notice that the test which fails for Weeve generates a lot of plots in a .ps file. I don't know how R generates postscript, but if this is what is failing, there might be a missing DEPEND in the ebuild?
Marked stable by hansmi, thanks :) Removing ppc from cc
sparc: Couldn't reproduce the test failing on a fresh stage3: it _seems_ deps are correct. Please consider marking it stable, as we got at least one successful test and no problems on other arches. Weeve: could you please retry? Further, could you retry on a fresh stage3? ia64 done.
Forgot to remove ia64 from CC.
sparc stable.
All done
