Description:   Opened: 2006-05-24 18:10 0000
I had just changed a USE flag and was updating my world (emerge -DuvaN world)
and portage wanted to remerge dpkg. Here's the relevant line:

# emerge dpkg -DuvaN
[ebuild UD] app-arch/dpkg-1.10.28 [1.13.11] USE="bzip2* zlib" 0 kB

I believe I previously merged the ~amd64 version without any trouble. But
anyway, I let portage downgrade it, and the compile failed:

The issue doesnt occur with dpkg-1.13.11, and seeing as gcc-4.x isnt even ~
yet, I cant see why this should hold up the ~'ing of gcc-4.1.1. Make sure that
either dpkg-1.13.11 is stabilized or the issue in 1.10.28 is fixed before
gcc-4.x goes stable...Sound good?

Yeah. This laptop is my testbed for experimental software (hence the masked
gcc and ricer kernel) so I can't say I didn't expect this to happen. Thanks
for the quick response ;)

------- Comment #4 From Mark Loeser 2006-05-24 19:15:16 0000 -------
Alright, so the ~arch version of it compiles?

I'm not too concerned about stable packages taht don't compile with gcc-4.1
since there are quite a few still (glibc being the main one). We'll have to
make a list somewhere down the road about that, but that is still a ways off.
:)

------- Comment #5 From Jakub Moc (RETIRED) 2006-05-25 01:01:39 0000 -------
Latest version compiles just fine.

------- Comment #6 From Alexandre Buisse (RETIRED) 2006-07-02 16:17:58 0000 -------
As gcc-4.1.1 is aiming for stable, I reopen the bug. I still get the issue here
on my x86 system.

Patch for gcc-4.1.1

Here comes a patch for this issue and another one that arises just after. As
this ebuild has no maintainer, I'll go ahead and make a 1.10.28-r1 if no-one
objects.

------- Comment #8 From Pablo De NĂ¡poli 2006-07-02 18:50:21 0000 -------
I suggest upgrading to 1.13.1 (this one compiles without problems)

------- Comment #9 From Alexandre Buisse (RETIRED) 2006-07-20 08:37:40 0000 -------
Let's block gcc-4.1 stable tracker bug.

------- Comment #10 From Christian Faulhammer 2006-07-20 09:00:08 0000 -------
Changed this bug's summary and cced arches...there are no bugs open in bugzilla
for that version and it has been in portage longer than 30 days. I did that,
because there is no maintainer; arches who don't want this important package
going stable too soon, please remove yourself from cc.

------- Comment #11 From Christian Faulhammer 2006-07-20 15:12:57 0000 -------
1) can confirm it won't compile with GCC 4.1
2) there are newer versions available by Debian, maybe dump in ~arch, there
seem to be no big changes (gettext support for the perl parts)
3) emerges fine
4) passes test suite
5) passes collision test
