Description Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-05-17 05:56:12 UTC
Java have opened a new community site to get the jdk included in major distributions:
https://jdk-distros.dev.java.net/developer.html

There is also a free download available which resolves the fetch-restricted problem with the current ebuilds:
http://download.java.net/dlj/binaries/jdk-1_5_0_06-distro-linux-i586.bin

Please update the ebuild so that we no longer have to download this manually.
thanks!

Sun have already been in contact about this

They released 1.5.0.06 under the DLJ. Unfortuantely, they haven't released it under the DLJ for the most recent version, 1.5.0.07.

By the looks of it, the Sun JRE is in there too, so can the JRE ebuilds use this as well? Just use the JRE bits from this package and then we would not need to DL the JRE as well. But, one thing that has always puzzled me was why the JRE still needs to be installed if the JDK is installed. The JDK installs the JRE, so the JRE ebuild should not be needed and the JDK should set the virtual for that, or does it and it just doesn't work for me? Or can I override it and say that the virtual for the JRE is the JDK? Maybe this is better in a different report, but it goes along with the same lines as this. :)

Cheers.
