Hello All,

I also got the same issue when trying to install gnome, hal, dbus.
The following error happens for someone that is helping me when he did
a search for this thing:

virtual/xft
     Latest version available: 6.8
     Latest version installed: 6.8.2-r6
     Size of downloaded files:  [no/bad digest]
     Homepage:    http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/
     Description: Virtual for the Xft font library
     License:     GPL-2

He also gets this when doing a emerge:
"emerge -pv xft"

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

I also have tryed doing a unmerge like this:
"emerge -av --unmerge virtual/xft" and also tryed ""emerge -av
--unmerge virtual/xft" I get that is not found in other words

Any ideas on this would be great.

You didn't post any useful information here...  The "following error" - which
one? You didn't post any. What block? Post the full 'emerge -uDpv world' output
or whatever else output where you get some block or whatnot.

This may be the same as the problem I have.

When I try to emerge anything that depends on virtual/xft, (in my case that was
gnome, but I am including the results from a simpler one) I get:

Does this mean I can right now run a "emerge --sync" and it will be working or

There's nothing wrong w/ that. It doesn't mean they are empty, just that they
don't download anything on your system, i.e., SRC_URI is empty.

looking on a working machine reveals the fact that each of the above listed 0kb
files downloaded between 300 bytes and a 1000 bytes at various locations.

Guessing SRC_URI = source URI and that

"To paraphrase the World Wide Web Consortium, Internet space is inhabited by
many points of content. A URI (Uniform Resource Identifier; pronounced
YEW-AHR-EYE) is the way you identify any of those points of content, whether it
be a page of text, a video or sound clip, a still or animated image, or a
program. The most common form of URI is the Web page address, which is a
particular form or subset of URI called a Uniform Resource Locator (URL). A URI
typically describes:

    * The mechanism used to access the resource
    * The specific computer that the resource is housed in
    * The specific name of the resource (a file name) on the computer"

then the difference between "the file is 0kb" and "the SRC_URI is empty" would
be immaterial to the user although not to the provider/repairer. Whether the
URI points to the wrong place or the wrong method or to a 0kb file a download
is unlikely to succeed. No/bad digest and 0kb seem strange responses to the
first two problems.
