When preview-latex use flag is set, app-emacs/auctex should probably dep on app-text/dvipng. Its not strictly necessary but apparently is much faster then using dvips/ghostscript. See here: http://www.gnu.org/software/auctex/preview-manual/preview-latex.html#Basic-modes-of-operation
I forgot to mention that the reason I mention is that tetex-3.0_p1-r3 no longer installs dvipng, so in the past we didn't need auctex to dep on dvipng
Thanks for the note. Committed to portage. ppc, ppc-macos, ppc64 people, please keyword the dependency, app-text/dvipng and then keyword app-emacs/auctex-11.83.ebuild.
this won't pass configure for me (PPC64): checking for Emacs prefix... cat: ./conftest-20239: No such file or directory "" checking if Emacs is recent enough... cat: ./conftest-20239: No such file or directory configure: error: This package requires at least Emacs version 21.1 Aborting! !!! Please attach the following file when filing a report to bugs.gentoo.org: !!! /var/tmp/portage/auctex-11.83/work/auctex-11.83/config.log this happens with version 11.83 and 11.82. can someone confirm this?
Created attachment 89510 [details] config.log on PPC64
looks like a regression wrt the configure patch. i'll check that out and get back to you
Works fine for me here on ppc64, but I've got app-editors/emacs-cvs-22.0.50.
Added ~ppc.
(In reply to comment #6) > Works fine for me here on ppc64, but I've got app-editors/emacs-cvs-22.0.50. > I can confirm this: auctex fails if emacs is installs but installs just fine if emacs-cvs is installed. (only tested on ppc64)
any news regarding comment #3?
Created attachment 111792 [details, diff] patch for PPC64 configuration (In reply to comment #9) > any news regarding comment #3? I am thinking about patching Emacs detection from AUCTeX' build system. ppc64, could you try 11.84? If it fails, too, please apply this patch and try again.
ppc-macos, please consider the keywords on app-text/dvipng and app-emacs/auctex or drop them entirely.
I see you removed it yourself.

ppc64, 11.84-r1 has the patch and should work for you. A test plan for AUCTeX is found in bug #154240. If AUCTeX works, dvipng is fine, too.
thanks for the patch! works fine on ppc64 now. added ~ppc64 last arch CC'd and auctex now depends on dvipng -> marking as FIXED
