Description Colin Macdonald 2006-04-30 00:32:08 UTC
When preview-latex use flag is set, app-emacs/auctex should probably dep on app-text/dvipng. Its not strictly necessary but apparently is much faster then using dvips/ghostscript.

See here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/auctex/preview-manual/preview-latex.html#Basic-modes-of-operation
Comment 1 Colin Macdonald 2006-04-30 00:48:51 UTC
I forgot to mention that the reason I mention is that tetex-3.0_p1-r3 no longer installs dvipng, so in the past we didn't need auctex to dep on dvipng
Comment 2 Matthew Kennedy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-18 21:13:50 UTC
Thanks for the note. Committed to portage.

ppc, ppc-macos, ppc64 people, please keyword the dependency, app-text/dvipng and then keyword app-emacs/auctex-11.83.ebuild.
Comment 3 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-18 23:43:33 UTC
this won't pass configure for me (PPC64):

checking for Emacs prefix... cat: ./conftest-20239: No such file or directory
""
checking if Emacs is recent enough... cat: ./conftest-20239: No such file or directory

configure: error: This package requires at least Emacs version 21.1 Aborting!

!!! Please attach the following file when filing a report to bugs.gentoo.org:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/auctex-11.83/work/auctex-11.83/config.log

this happens with version 11.83 and 11.82. can someone confirm this?

looks like a regression wrt the configure patch. i'll check that out and get back to you
Comment 6 Joshua (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-23 20:17:34 UTC
Works fine for me here on ppc64, but I've got app-editors/emacs-cvs-22.0.50.
Comment 7 Tobias Scherbaum (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-25 05:19:42 UTC
Added ~ppc.

I can confirm this: auctex fails if emacs is installs but installs just fine if emacs-cvs is installed. (only tested on ppc64)

patch for PPC64 configuration

I am thinking about patching Emacs detection from AUCTeX' build system. ppc64, could you try 11.84? If it fails, too, please apply this patch and try again.
Comment 11 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-02 12:41:58 UTC
ppc-macos, please consider the keywords on app-text/dvipng and app-emacs/auctex or drop them entirely.
Comment 12 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2007-03-17 23:32:55 UTC
I see you removed it yourself.

kind of late this answer, but the patch does solve this problem.

ppc64, 11.84-r1 has the patch and should work for you. A test plan for AUCTeX is found in bug #154240. If AUCTeX works, dvipng is fine, too.
Comment 15 Markus Rothe (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-04-09 09:22:43 UTC
thanks for the patch! works fine on ppc64 now. added ~ppc64

last arch CC'd and auctex now depends on dvipng -> marking as FIXED
