I'm using gnome-base/gdm-2.4.0.12-r2 and the themes that come with that package. The new "Emergence" gdm theme, which apparently is the default, lacks the keyboard accelerators that the previous default, "Circles", has. For example, accessing the System menu with Alt-y. I prefer these shortcuts to using the mouse, but at least have the option of using the mouse; other users may not be so fortunate or may have health reasons (wrist pain) for avoiding the mouse when possible. I think the default settings should be as accessible as possible with less accessible themes as options (through gdmsetup). Best option, of course, is to fix the new theme to have the same (or better) accessibility as Circles. Next best is to keep Circles as the default with Emergence as an option through gdmsetup. If I've missed something obvious that makes this bug pointless, then please feel close the bug and send me insulting email. Thanks.
you have a good point, i didnt run across it since i always use my mouse. I'llhave to check how circles does this when i have time or could you maybe hack up a fixed config xml for emergence (which i'd like to keep as default)?
Created attachment 6970 [details] better (?) gentoo-emergence.xml Ok, here is a (hopefully) fixed gentoo-emergence.xml file. "Works for me" but then I'm in the default locale. The other languages may not work. I did the best I could by combining the stuff from circles.xml with what was already in gentoo-emergence.xml. I suspect that most languages work. However, there are some languages that the original gentoo-emergence.xml had that circles.xml didn't, so those don't have accelerator keys. The hopefully happy result of this is that (a) we have accelerators back, at least in English and (b) the new gentoo-emergence.xml has more languages than circles.xml. Hope this is helpful and can be incorporated into the default tree.
thnx looks good. It took like forever to put it in (easy tasks never seem to be urgent enough ;)), sorry for that.
