gdm or X crashes when I log out, or shut down or restart from X and the screen goes black, the system is still up and running and working like it should but the screen is totaly black...

i have x11-drivers/ati-drivers 8.21.7-r1 as graphicsdrivers..

if you disable gdm, does this still happen when you logout?

I tried kdm, same thing, even if i from console do /etc/init.d/xdm stop it crashes and the screen goes blank

this bug is dead old, please provide updated information. Not gnome specific anyway so removing us from CC.
