Description:   Opened: 2006-03-05 12:10 0000
It seems to me that vorbiscomment version 1.1.1 has a bug in handling utf-8
comments under a utf-8 locale. When writting a comment from a utf-8 encoded
text file to a ogg-vorbis file, vorbiscomment replaces each two-byte charater
in the comments by two '#' characters. Just as if it handles each byte as a
7-bit-ASCII character. Only if I give it the -R parameter both on writing and
reading the vorbis comments, the utf-8 characters handled as utf-8 characters.

Version 1.0.1 of vorbiscomment seems to be able to handle utf-8 characters
correctly. With this version, it doesn't matter if I give the -R parameter.

(The following commands where executed in an xterm with utf-8 fonts.)

# sudo emerge =vorbis-tools-1.1.1-r1
...
# export LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
# vorbiscomment --version
Vorbiscomment 1.1.1
# cat test.txt
music-by=Esbj

vorbis-tools-1.1.1-utf8.patch

This was fixed upstream for Ticket #685.
http://trac.xiph.org/ticket/685

The upstream patch is attached.

I've confirmed that vorbis-tools-1.1.1-r1 has the problem described in this bug
and that this patch fixes it.

------- Comment #3 From Alexandre Buisse (RETIRED) 2006-03-08 14:13:59 0000 -------
The patch has been added in vorbis-tools-1.1.1-r2.ebuild.

Thanks for the report and the link to upstream patch.
