I can confirm this bug with man-pages-2.24 and sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.2.2.
module-init-tools no longer provides those pages

(In reply to comment #3) > module-init-tools no longer provides those pages > yes, it no longer provides those pages as long as you're using the testing version (3.2.2) but with the stable version (3.2.1) it *does* provide those pages.
I'd reopen this bug if I could... I can confirm that sys-apps/man-pages-2.24 collides with sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.2.1 Both are currently marked as stable. If it is known that future versions of module-init-tools will not be providing those pages I could turn off collision protection, merge man-pages-2.24 and trust that all will be well in the future. Is this a good idea? Sample Output: ............ >>> extracting man-pages-2.24 * checking 3104 files for package collisions existing file /usr/share/man/man2/delete_module.2.gz is not owned by this package existing file /usr/share/man/man2/get_kernel_syms.2.gz is not owned by this package existing file /usr/share/man/man2/init_module.2.gz is not owned by this package existing file /usr/share/man/man2/query_module.2.gz is not owned by this package existing file /usr/share/man/man2/create_module.2.gz is not owned by this package ........... mithrandir ~ # equery b /usr/share/man/man2/delete_module.2.gz [ Searching for file(s) /usr/share/man/man2/delete_module.2.gz in *... ] sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.2.1 (/usr/share/man/man2/delete_module.2.gz)
Hi, Why don't you emerge sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.2.2 and be done (~x86). i can reopen the Bug, but as the testing version will sooner or later go to stable don't think it's such a big issue. But if you insist i'll reopen it ;) Thanks.Rumen
(In reply to comment #10) > But if you insist i'll reopen it ;) I don't insist. I just worry a bit about the user who is new to Gentoo who is setting up a system today and enables collision protect because it sounds like a good idea only to run into file collisions on a fresh system. I can wait for module-init-tools-3.2.2 to be marked stable or just install it now, but that doesn't help the experience of the new user. Thanks for your time and attention, though. -Nahum

This is really annoying, please fix the stable version as well.
it's already been fixed

(In reply to comment #15) > it's already been fixed > Has it? I just checked and latest stable version is 3.2.1 and latest stable version of man pages is 2.24. I'm guessing others are still having the same problem as additional bugs are being opened.
it was (silently?) fixed in module-init-tools-3.2.1: # remove man pages provided by the man-pages package now #124127 rm -r "${D}"/usr/share/man/man2 so re-emerge that one first
