I was told (see #110124) to issue a separate ticket to request stabilization of
darkice packages. the latest stable (x86) version in portage is 0.14, over one
and a half years old, while the current release is 0.17.

could a more recent version be marked as stable?

It's probably safe to stabilize media-sound/darkice-0.15 since it's been in
portage for 10 months now and there are no open bugs, CC'ing arches.
