Description Alexander Stein 2006-02-08 09:27:27 UTC
After I emerged the kpdf-3.5.1-r2 (which uses popplernow) doesn't show up pdfs correctly. It only shows the background but no text at all. Downgrading to kde-base/kpdf-3.5.1-r1 and it shows up correctly.

Comment 1 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-08 09:33:04 UTC
It's the same for every PDF or only with specific ones?
Comment 2 Marcelo Goes (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-08 10:05:14 UTC
=kpdf-3.5.1-r2 works fine for me, it would be nice if you could attach an example of broken pdf file.
Comment 3 Alexander Stein 2006-02-08 10:12:24 UTC
It's only with a specific pdf. Could be caused the others don't have backgrounds.
I'm afraid I cannot attach the "broken" pdf due copyright issues.
Comment 4 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-08 10:14:33 UTC
Does the breakage also happen in evince and xpdf?

Please use the latest ~arch versions of both for testing, because those are using poppler.
Comment 5 Alexander Stein 2006-02-08 10:40:49 UTC
Yes, it's the same problem with app-text/xpdf-3.01-r7
I didn't install evince, because it has to many dependencies.
Comment 6 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-08 10:48:10 UTC
so this is clearly popplers fault.

Can you please try rebuilding poppler and poppler-bindings with USE=-zlib?

I got a pointer from upstream that zlib could be causing problems.
Comment 7 Alexander Stein 2006-02-08 10:55:17 UTC
You're right: Rebuilding poppler with USE="-zlib" was enough. Now all is shown correctly.
Comment 8 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-08 11:41:42 UTC
thank you for reporting this. I bumped the revision and removed the zlib opton from the ebuild.

Comment 10 Ruben Jenster 2006-02-15 06:16:38 UTC
I think this should be reopened.
I've emerged poppler-0.5.0-r5 where zlib support is dropped and remerged poppler-bindings as well as kpdf-3.5.1-r2 but some pdfs still does not show up correctly. (Pictures are displaced)
Comment 11 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-15 06:31:15 UTC
Ruben: Can you please open a new bugreport for your issue? It is different.
Also I would like you to try xpdf or evince and tell me if the isssue also appears there to find out if it is kpdf or poppler-related.
