Description David Masover 2005-12-30 09:13:29 UTC
It seems to work on every other file I throw at it, including WMV (to my surprise), but crashes on h264 files before even showing me video.

This also happens on my 32-bit version, 1.0pre7-3.3.4, so I don't think this is a 64-bit specific issue.

It would help if someone can point me towards some sort of reference h264 video which plays on mplayer, because I only have files from one source, so I don't know if it's that the files are corrupt and mplayer just isn't handling them well, or if it's that mplayer actually crashes on each and every h264 file.

Anyway, here's "emerge info":

Comment 1 Reimar Döffinger 2006-01-07 02:52:21 UTC
Almost no H.264 files work with pre7, it is too old :-(
Either use CVS or hope for a new release soon.
Comment 2 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2006-01-07 05:22:44 UTC
There is a recent snapshot in portage, probably it could work better.
Comment 3 David Masover 2006-01-07 12:10:43 UTC
I didn't test the snapshot beyond seeing if it fixed Bug #116723. It didn't.

However, it probably would work, because I can compile mplayer from CVS myself and have it play h264 just fine.

I guess this should be marked UPSTREAM?
Comment 4 Stuart W. Finlayson 2006-01-09 06:31:26 UTC
That snapshot (mplayer-1.0.20060102) works fine for H264, but it's masked in profiles/package.mask.
Comment 5 Steve Dibb (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-19 13:25:24 UTC
Please test with pre8, report back if any issues.

Thanks
Comment 6 David Masover 2006-07-25 05:32:26 UTC
Yes, it is fixed in pre8. Sorry I took so long to verify, my main source of h.264 videos has all but stopped distributing them.
