I get the same behavior with MAKEOPTS="-jx", where x > 1. It looks like the makefile doesn't like to be compiled using more than one job. I'll see if I can fix it.

Hi folks, Thanks for reporting and I have just updated the singular-3.0.1.2.ebuild force -j1 in emake to prevent build failure. I'll also try to get in touch with upstream and ask them to have a look at this. Thanks, Markus

found the fix: cd /var/tmp/portage/singular-3.0.1.2/work/Singular-3-0-1/ntl/src ./configure (this writes the Makefile) make.. please fix the ebuild (it seems an upstream bug however)

Is this related to the MAKEOPTS issues to which this bug relates, i.e. does it happen only with j2 and up or also with j1? In the latter case it is unrelated to this bug and please reopen your previous bug and we'll deal with the issue there. Thanks, Markus
oki reopening bug 125180 as bug is still there with j1 too. i'll copy solution too.
