Description Roy Marples (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-01 05:28:29 UTC
On a fresh KDE-3.5.0 install, with no prior settings, logging out works.
However, after adding a button to the kicker, like right-click on konsole and
choose "Add Item to Main Panel" I then get this issue.

When you logout/restart/shutdown the kde session the screen goes black, waits a
few seconds and then a new kicker seems to load and then it closes down ok. It
seems that the kicker crashes.

emergeing kdebugdialog doesn't produce anything useful, and I am unsure how to
go about getting a backtrace. So you'll have to hold my hand (ie tell me what to
do in simple steps) to get any useful debugging information.

A workaround is to add --nocrashhandler to the exec call in
/usr/kde/3.5/share/autostart/panel.desktop which keeps us fast, but only masks
the real issue here.

This happens on x86 and amd64, both compiled fully with gcc-4.0.2-r1

I've got the same issue. Kicker is crashing when I click reboot/shutdown.
This is a fresh install system.

I have a similar thing. (kde 3.4.1)

When logging out (session / reboot / shut down) the kicker krashes (and displays
a kicker crashed dialog).
Minor annoyance since all windows that were aligned with the kicker re-aligns
with the screen edge and saves those positions for next login.

Comment 3 Jimmy Rosen 2005-12-09 02:44:39 UTC
hmm, further reading showed that my problem probably has gotten fixed in 3.4.2.
from bug#97699

sorry for cluttering this bug. (bows)
Comment 4 Stonki 2005-12-11 01:56:11 UTC
I have the same problem on ADM64 with one machine. Another machine works fine.
Comment 5 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-12 09:27:00 UTC
It should be fixed in 3.5.1, see KDE bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106922
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-14 09:47:55 UTC
I'm testing it, aseigo gave me the rev# to get the patch, extracted it and
building kdelibs right now.

Comment 7 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-15 04:30:46 UTC
Okay, Roy confirmed it's fixed with kdelibs-3.5.0-r1.

Comment 8 Robert Crawford 2005-12-15 09:43:44 UTC
Sorry- I just re-emerged the new kdelibs-3.5.0-r1 (with fix for this), and
it's still not fixed here. This shutdown crash reappeared when I went from
beta2 to kde 3.5.0 final on this box a few days ago. On the black screen with
a new kicker and signal 11 error box appearing after the shutdown crash, three
items (klipper, sound volume, and ksensors) are gone, but they reappear
normally on reboot. I did add several Kmenu items with right click. (I'm ~x86,
current sync). I recall also having this happen on earlier kde versions.

Comment 9 Robert Crawford 2005-12-18 04:51:31 UTC
Seems to be fixed now. I had to rm -rf /tmp/* and /var/tmp/* (and also remove all gentoo.org cookie reference lines in kcookiejar) to fix the "can't login to Gentoo forum with konqueror" problem which suddenly reappeared too, and since I did that, the logout/shutdown is back to normal.
