Background information: the IOCTLs used by sys-apps/pcmcia-cs are deprecated and pending removal from the linux kernel. The replacement for pcmcia-cs is sys-apps/pcmciautils. This package requires >=sys-apps/module-init-tools-3.2_pre4, which is currently marked ~x86. In order to be able to provide a smooth transition from pcmcia-cs to pcmciautils it is crucial that we get pcmciautils marked stable on at least x86 before the pcmcia-cs IOCTLs are finally removed from the kernel. The first step is to get the module-init-tools dependency fulfilled.
base-system: any known issues with this version to keep it from going stable?
other than it's a _pre package, no
An alternative would be to mark module-init-tools-3.2.1 stable...
That package was just added the other day. I'd personally rather wait to make sure its stable before we take any action on this.

I agree - which is why this bug report is about module-init-tools-3.2_pre7-r1. I was only listing 3.2.1 as an alternative. Seeing that marking a pre-release stable might not fall in everyones taste, how about we wait until 3.2.1 has been in Portage for ~30 days without any bug reports (hopefully January 3rd?) and then mark 3.2.1 stable on x86?

This sounds best to me. Prod us around then and we'll fix it.
3.2.1 should be ready to go stable now, kthxbye
Stable on x86, thanks
