Rather than using /etc/conf.d/samba to specify if winbind an init.d script should be created. This would allow winbind to be restarted seperately from smbd and nmbd. I have run into situations where the winbind daemon is hung but I can't restart samba because a user is transfering files. I have spoken to John Terpstra on the phone regarding this and he agree it would be a good idea. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Solved with the latest version bump. It is now possible to symlink /etc/init.d/samba.winbind -> /etc/init.d/samba and then do "/etc/init.d/samba.winbind" which will start winbind seperately.
