Following raine's ebuild (#11147), I post this updated version of allegro which includes quite a few improvements, among them ARTS support, nice to have since ALSA requires version 0.5 which has been deprecated in Gentoo for some time now.

Please, apply this patch which I forgot to include in the ebuild - I did it on the bash's environment I was testing it on -, or else it will fail to complete. @@ -38,6 +38,8 @@ use tetex + export CPPFLAGS="${CPPFLAGS} -I${KDEDIR}/include" + # Always enable Linux console support and accompanying drivers confopts="${confopts} --enable-linux --enable-pthreads \ --disable-vga --disable-vbeaf --enable-asm \

okay this will take a while since stuff which depends on allegro won't work with this version (rainer and liquidwars) without some patching.
i added 4.1.9 but i masked it since it is API incompatible with 4.0.x ... yes it installs libraries in a SLOT-able fashion, but it does not install it's header files nicely http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo-x86/media-libs/allegro/allegro-4.1.9.ebuild?rev=1.1&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup
