The samba 3.0.20 ebuild doesn't install /usr/bin/smbmount instead of this /usr/bin/smbmnt is installed. The symlink /sbin/mount.smbfs doesn't exists because of this. Furthermore this cause other program errors - e.g. smb4k which doesn't starts because it doesn't find smbmount in the path...

This is no duplicat to #104504!!!!! 104504 says that mount.cifs (CIFS FS) is missing. This posting says that smbmount is missing (SMB FS). The command is need by some application, e.g. Smb4k. The samba ebuild 3.0.20 3.0.20-r1, doesn't install /usr/bin/smbmount, but /usr/bin/smbmnt. Therefore the symlink /sbin/mount.smbfs doesn't works, because it points to /usr/bin/smbmount (which doesn't exists). Therefore I reopen this bug... Sorry...
Confirmed that smbmount does not get built with 3.0.20 or 3.0.20-r1. Seems that the ebuild is looking for a USE variable named kernel_linux which isn't listed in IUSE. However, even after adding the kernel_linux to IUSE it still doesn't build smbmount.
kernel_linux is auto-enabled by profile (see emerge info).
>kernel_linux is auto-enabled by profile suspected something like that even if the ebuild is edited to include --with-smbmount the binary does not get built
smbmount seems to get built with the auto-enabled kernel_linux from the 2005.1 profile, at least that's what I gather from this line displayed during installation: >>> /sbin/mount.smbfs -> ../usr/bin/smbmount However, after the cleansing of the previous installation, it's gone again... ls: /sbin/mount.smbfs: No such file or directory
a typo in the patch for BSD compatibility, now fixed (sorry...). samba-3.0.20-r1 with the new patchset in cvs.
