The fam USE flag should use virtual/fam, or be relabeled.
If gamin is really required, then have a famgamin SUE flag or something. 
USE=fam to me means virtual/fam.

Yes gamin is required (for FAMNoExists() function).  I'm working with upstream
to see about adding a patch that falls back to fam if gamin is unavailable.

1.4.1-r1 is in cvs and fixes this issue (as well as a sleu of others).
