Description:   Opened: 2005-07-28 08:29 0000
Ebuild for scim-input-pad as it was not yet in Portage.

Release news: http://www.scim-im.org/news/scim_news/scim_input_pad_0_1_0 (there
does not seem to be any specific project page for scim-input-pad)

Category: app-i18n (same as SCIM and related packages)
Ebuild name: scim-input-pad (official name)

##### Begin description:

The Smart Common Input Method (SCIM) input pad is a tool used to input special
characters, in an easy way. You select the text zone you wish to write in, and
just click on the wanted character in the right multilevel tabbed table, from
the SCIM Input Pad interface. By default, there is special characters from
Japanese (including kana), Chinese, Korean, Latin, braille, mathematics and a
lot of other miscellaneous symbols such as arrows, box elements, etc. You may
also add new characters (see documentation).

##### End description.

/!\ Please note:

* It is my first ebuild. I sure read the Gentoo official documentation, and
checked my work multiple times, but there may still be some errors.

* I don't know anything about the package dependencies, except it requires
scim-1.2.0 and gtk2 >= 2.4.0 (see "scim-input-pad.spec" in the package tarball)

/!\ Caution: I did not set dependencies (nor USE flags) for gtk2 as it seems a
bit too much for me (seeing the scim ebuild), so it will have to be done.

* I do not have the time, nor enough knowledge, to maintain this package. As I
use it, I may be able to send new updated ebuilds, but I don't want to be listed
as the current maintainer.

* In the ebuild pkg_postinst() I have some einfo saying:

"The SCIM input pad should be startable from the SCIM (and Skim) systray icon
right click menu. You will have to restart SCIM (or Skim) in order for the menu
entry to appear (you may simply restart your X server). If you want to use it
immediately, just start the SCIM input pad, using the 'scim-input-pad' command."

The problem is the menu entry for scim-input-pad does not appear when scim (or
skim) starts with X... I can get the entry to show by killing scim (or skim) and
starting it again... The scim-input-pad documentation is nearly inexistent, so I
do not know if there is other steps to complete the installation which could
resolve the problem. Either way, the user may just start scim-input-pad
manually... (I guess some separate bug might have to be filled for this, if the
solution is not obvious to someone here :))

metadata.xml for scim-input-pad

------- Comment #3 From Mathieu Bonnet 2005-07-28 08:49:59 0000 -------
Oh yeah, and I don't know anything about possible supported architectures,
except x86 (that I use)... Probably the same as SCIM, but I really don't know.

scim-input-pad-0.1.1.ebuild (version bump)

See: http://www.scim-im.org/news/scim_news/scim_input_pad_0_1_1

From the news:

Changes since 0.1.0:
- Four new translations pa de fr it were added.
- Japanese table was updated.
- Some minor bugs were fixed.

(/!\ Note: I more or less set the dependencies, using the Debian package from
http://chinese.alioth.debian.org/scim-experimental/, but they must be checked
by someone who knows better than me).

scim-input-pad-0.1.0.ebuild (new package, updated ebuild)

Corrected the dependencies and the `dodoc` command. (/!\ See
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100599#c4 about the dependencies).

------- Comment #6 From Mathieu Bonnet 2005-12-17 08:41:00 0000 -------
scim-input-pad-0.1.1 has been released (see:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100599#c4). I guess there is no need to
keep the scim-input-pad-0.1.0.ebuild, but I still updated its dependencies. As
this ebuild still hasn't been published, I guess there was no need to open a
new bug report, so I added the scim-input-pad-0.1.1.ebuild here.

------- Comment #7 From Alastair Tse (RETIRED) 2006-02-16 11:31:52 0000 -------
great work. thanks for the ebuild and also the metadata.xml. i've added this to
the gentoo portage now as app-i18n/scim-input-pad.

i trimmed down the dependencies becaise atk, glib and pango are implied by
gtk+.
